Screen freezes, no BSOD and sometimes all applications not responding

Hello everyone, I'm having a hard time now, my laptop (Asus n82jv) suddenly freezes out of nowhere, explorer hangs, applications (chrome, adobe pdf) stop responding. I've read related threads and tried the troubleshooting, driver checks, memtest86, but still if freezes out of nowhere. After a hard reset and booting it up right after the first freeze, it immediately freezes again at the log-in or black screen with mouse, not even reaching the desktop. I dont also think its overheating since i run memtest for more than 12 hours, but after the test it works fine even though its hot. Unlike when i'm doing just searching the web or reading a pdf there will come a time the application will stop responding, taskbar not functional. But if I waited a few hours without using the laptop, it works again, then will freeze again at random times, thus entering the loop again.

Driver issue? Should I resort to formatting windows? Any advices? Thank you so much!

A surface test would be good as mention as I was going to recommend at least reviewing S.M.A.R.T. data to see if something obviously is amiss as HDD issues can cause freezes. In my experience sometimes capacitors on a board can cause freezing if they are blown or at half capacity. Another thing I would do is download yourself a live OS disk somewhere. Any Linux live DVD or Parted Magic will do as you can boot to it and use the OS for a while and see if it freezes. That would eliminate the question or narrow down between hardware vs. System file corruption issue.
