I would think with the age of your system, I would be thinking of a new system. Update the mobo, Ram and CPU. The newer systems will use the newer DDR3 ram. You would be quite pleased with some of the newer technology and it's capabilities. I would be thinking of that rather than upgrading an older system. You would be surprised at the performance increases.

Just one more thing b4 I mark this thread as solved it did occur to me overnight that maybe i also had a ram channel problem as I placed the 2 remaining sticks of good ram in A2 and B1 but i removed all the sticks and the pc loads up with 1 gig in A1 so now i have proved that my mobo is fine.

Roger, put both sticks in the other 2 slots and run memtest for 8 passes. Then you can say your mobo is OK. Again, just because your computer boots does not mean either that the ram is OK or the slots are OK. Plus the sticks should be in the 2 slots of the same color.

AS essenbe says ate I think it might be just as well to start making a few plans for a new build all the same. In a way it is a bit like a car you find odd things going wrong and then find the major problems setting in and frankly by that stage you are usually racing around trying to get something going.

I usually plan for a new build saving the stuff in a document or as it happens a wish list in my case with my supplier. For example I have two lots of specs for two I am doing soon and all you need to do is post them and ask again as essenbe says we are here ready to help out.
