A required privilege is not held by t

    Win 7 Ultimate:

Trying to save a NotePad document to c:\ and I keep getting this error: " Error 0x80070522 A required privilege is not held by the client"

I changed ownership of the C drive to my user, but I still can't save to the root. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

If you really must save a text document to the root drive from notepad, open notepad by right clicking the icon and select Run as administrator. Then edit and save to C:.

Just asking - why would you need to save something to the root? By design, Windows 7 doesn't let you monkey around too much with the root. If you really need to put something there, you'll have to run notepad as the administrator. Then you'll be able to save to C:.

Kegobeer: I hear what you're saying, and in most cases saving a text file to the root is a pointless, but this is my web dev machine and I'm trying to mimic the file locations we use on our live server... and I really don't want/need Windows to protect me from myself.

Thanks to both of you, I'm new to the Vista/Win7 idea of "Run as Administrator." That did the trick

If you have experience with Linux, just think of run as administrator as sudo.
