    Show file extensions

Try Start > My Computer then select Organize

In Folder View options set file extensions to be shown then post another screenshot of the file's properties.

The screen shot looks the same as the previous one. The box was already unchecked.

What previous screenshot? Your screenshot? It doesn't show any file extension. Can you see file extensions for other file types?

    Something to try

    You could try this:

Download Blank And Secure - MajorGeeks

Try dragging the shortcut into the programs's window then post a screenshot of what it shows.

    Broken Shortcut Fixer

    Another suggestion.

Download and scan for broken shortcuts:

    Broken Shortcut Fixer (Official Site)

Note: Any software that claims to detect and fix broken shortcuts will usually flag up shortcuts that are not actually broken. Each detection requires a manual check for verification.

Run it and see if it reports on the problem shortcut. Ignore any other detections.

    Hi hallbl06,
In my image, I have selected a picture, its called Desert.jpg. It is located in Libraries > Pictures > Sample Pictures.

Find the name of the file your trying to delete then enter its name in the search box of my attached program which must be run as administrator. It is a portable program and it wont do anything to your computer. When or if it finds it, right click and select delete. Everything.zip

I tried blank and secure. The files won't drag to it. It shows a plus sign but nothing happens. I tried to drag other files over and they popped up in the blank and secure window. Broken shortcut fixer didn't work either.

No luck with this Roderunner. I typed in the file name and 3 things came up. Here's a screen shot of it. The first two wouldn't delete but the third one did.

Since Blank & Secure didn't show a file path I reckon it looks like a file that's somehow been renamed with no extension. I could be wrong about that but here's something to try.

Have a go at changing the desktop wallpaper to something other than your current wallpaper as shown here using Option Two:

    Desktop Background - Change

If that icon disappears - reboot then revert you wallpaper back to how it was set before.
