Can't delete files from my documents or desktop

I have Windows 7 Home Premium and I'm having trouble deleting a file from my documents. I deleted it but it's still showing up on the computer. It also has a shortcut on the desktop that won't go away. When I try to delete it I get a message that says, "Could not find this item." "This is no longer located in C:\Users\AMS\My Documents. Verify the item's location and try again."

It also says the file name, Type: File, Size: 20.9 KB, and the date it was modified.

I've tried a bunch of different things and nothing seems to work. Here's what I've tried so far.....


I've tried renaming it and I get the same message. I've also created a new file, named that file the same thing as the file I'm trying to get rid of.

I've tried command prompts. All I keep getting is “The system cannot find the file specified.”

I've tried to refresh the desktop, restart the computer, restart the computer in safe mode. None of that worked.

Can anyone help? I don't know a lot about computers so simple terms or step by step directions would be best. Thanks!

Ztruker: this is what comes up when you right click them and select properties.... Roderunner: I tried your solution and nothing happened. It still won't let me delete it.

Yes... Documents library> right clicked file> open file location> right clicked file> delete and I got the same message: "Could not find this item." "This is no longer located in C:\Users\AMS\My Documents. Verify the item's location and try again."

andrew129260: I tried file assassin.. it told me "File not found. Check the file name and try again."

Okay I tried that and it didn't work either. Any other ideas?
