I am with Greg here and also a little confused as I was under the impression Micro was installing 7 over the Vista so why are we raking over Vista stuff?
The other thing that crossed my tiny mind was Micro is attempting a dual boot??
The computer was originally sold with Vista John, when the OP bought it it had win 7 installed on it.

The newest drivers available from the manufacturer are for Vista.

For reasons unknown, the OP is reinstalling win 7 over the previous win 7 using their own version, but is having trouble with the Vista drivers.

I don't think there is a dual boot involved here, just the trouble with the vista drivers from Dell.
Yep I had an idea that what was happening and why I suggested clean all or wipe that drive if he wasn't intending having both OS's on it.
I am going to leave it to you blokes as it is a bit confusing to say the least.:)
