partitions not found on win7 but there on xp?

I have hdd that was installed on a win7 home machine. i had a message saying fault and explorer closed and two partitions out of three on a 1trb drive are shown now as not available.
I put the drive in a caddy and connected to a old laptop running xp and there I can see the partitions and the contents but not when plugged into the usb on the win 7 machine.
any ideas why this is? and is it fixable?

try a different usb port on the Windows 7 machine, preferably one at the other end of the computer (back posr if you have previously used front)

Back up your files from the XP machine which can read the drive.

Then run a full Disk Check.
