Difficulty using Windows Explorer - please advise

I am having difficulty using Windows Explorer.
I am used to working in Explorer with two panes side by side and I can do that now. I work on files, for example tagging music files, and then when prepared I drag n' drop them from my Workshop folder to the relevant Music folder on my Ext Hard Drive. I often use right click and Move the files.

The problem is when dragging across to the target pane/folder there is no space to drop the files now.
The system wants to attach the files to a folder of it's choosing, whereas I want to select the folder.
If I hover over a folder in the Tree on the left the whole lot pops opens and the folder whizzes to the bottom of the screen and then I cannot see my target folder. All the while I have my right click held. If I let go goodness knows where my files will end up. Many's the time I have had to resort to Edit>Undo Move, and start again, Grrrrrr
Explorer didn't used to behave like this, and while I like Win7 I am struggling to adapt to this weird new behaviour in Explorer.
Can you understand what I am trying to describe, it is not easy in words.
    Have your experiences been similar...

I have found the best place to drop the files or folders is on the left of the icons in the right pane.

I am having the same issue... I just cannot get used to the new Windows Explorer... I like the old Vista/XP explorer that you can drag/drop easily, and also I miss the UP BUTTON!!

Use the backspace key...it is faster and has the same result as the up button

Yeah I think I have been won over as far as the up button... I can use backspace or clicking on the previous folder name in the address section. The other concern remains though!
