    Won't do a restart.

    Newbie here -- just need a little help -- TIA --

    My system is fine but it won't do a restart -- I have to hold the power off button and then push start.
    Thanks Wally.

    What happens when you try to restart or shutdown from the Start button?

    Try running sfc.

    Click Start, type command.
    Right click on Command Prompt at the top and select Run as Administrator.
    Type sfc /scannow and press Enter
    Let it run to completion.
    See if the problem is fixed.

    What you are experiencing is sometimes caused by a program in the TSR state. Try starting the system in Safe Mode and see if it corrects the problem; if so, add back startup items one at a time to find the culprit. See link below for starting in Safe Mode;

    go into control panel and under power settings on the left hand side it should say "change power button" or similar. check that the reset button is set to do its job as well as shutdown button.

    When you press the Power button once does it shut down normally?

    Please post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image.

    Then go over your system thoroughly with Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

    Only the partition booting an OS should be marked Active, so K should not be marked Active. What is it exactly? It appears as an internal drive but is labeled External. That drive looks like it had Win7 installed upon it at one time with the System Reserved partition deleted, so it may have stray boot code which is interfering.

    Mark K Inactive and do a few reboots. Partition - Mark as Inactive - Windows 7 Forums

    If this doesn't resolve the restart issue, then power down to unplug DISK2 to test if it is actually blocking reboots. If so move its data off to wipe with Diskpart Clean Command to clean off the boot code, repartition in Disk Mgmt.
