    screen saver does not work

OK, I tried going through services.msc to make sure nothing there was perhaps disabled, then tried Brink's suggestion and unplugged/uninstalled and/or disabled printers and other peripherals one by one. No change. Then I unplugged the w/mouse and uninstalled the driver, rebooted, plugged it back in, let Windows install a driver and everything works again!!!! Bloody computer, grrrrrrrrrr
Thanks again fellas, really appreciate the help we deadheads get from this site.
ok, if anybody is still out there reading this after all these years, please help me.

I have the same problem --- screen saver does not work --- and I have a wireless mouse in the system. When I first plugged in the USB receiver for the wireless mouse, Windows automatically installed the driver(s).

Should I uninstall the driver(s) and, if so, how do I do that?

Or, do you think the cause of my issue is different?

Or, do you think I should just set a mouse trap?

    Thanks!

The problem is, the screensaver does not really save the screen. Only turning the screen completely off will preserve the life of the display. The screensaver is just a diversion --- a fun thing to watch for a few minutes until the screen turns off.

My preferred setting is: 3 minutes of inactivity --> screen saver and 7 more minutes of inactivity --> display off.

Right now, my screensaver does not work, so the net effect is 10 minutes of inactivity --> display off.

One would think that after all these years somebody would have definitively solved the problem, but apparently not.

If anyone does have a solution, Please post if on this thread.

    Thanks!

Go to advanced Power Setting and set it to turn you monitor off after your decided time. It's not a problem, you have to know where to set it.

I don't know why you submitted this. The problem is NOT that the display does not turn off. It is that the screen saver does not work. The display turns off just fine and I have stated that clearly above. I don't think anyone on this thread has indicated a problem with that. The thread is about people having trouble with the screensaver.

If anyone has a suggestion about how to make the screensaver work, I would love to see it.

    Thanks.

Britton30: "Sorry for try to help buddy. you don't know how to ask for proper help it would seem..."

Here are my most recent requests for help, in repsonse to irrelevant comments from Britton30:

"If anyone has a suggestion about how to make the screensaver work, I would love to see it. Thanks."

"If anyone does have a solution, Please post if on this thread."

If these requests bother you or anyone, feel free to ignore them.

And once again, if anyone does have a solution, Please post if on this thread.

    Thanks!

Thanks for starting your own thread separate from elmlouise's (where you began your inquiry).

SFC was suggested and it's a good idea, please follow though with that and post the results.

A little housekeeping is always helpful - make sure you have all updates installed that are offered by Windows Updates (WU). Run WU manually until nothing more is offered.

When you have completed those tasks, check to see if your screen saver works. As I understand the issue, you have Screen Saver set to launch @ 3 minutes, and power scheme to Turn off display @ 10 minutes.

That's a fairly short time of inactivity - you might try increasing the Screen Saver to 10 minutes and display off to 20 minutes.

Let's go from there, but process the suggestions in the order they were given. Who knows, the 1st suggestion (SFC) might resolve it for you.
