    Do you know where he downloaded it from? It really would be best just to ask him for the product key he purchased so you can re-use it.

    Just for your security and safety, you should buy a legal copy. Again from newegg or amazon. Unwrapped brand new. Like this one:

    If you ask your friend for the product key he purchased you'll have the key to a brand new install of Windows. I'm not sure why you're so reluctant to get that information.

    You either need to ask your buddy for the key, buy a new one, or use the Vista key on the machine and install that.

    Here is where you can get the Vista .ISO if you go that route.

    If I go the rout of down loading vista where do I find a product key that was originally came with the laptop. I'm sorry for being so confusing my body that use to have the laptop moved out of town. I don't talk to him any more.
