I had Win Office Pro 97 some years ago when still in business, it became unusable after 3 installs, was stored in dry, dark cupboard. I have had a few music CD's become unplayable, latest was a Katie Mellua in which the opening track could not be heard.
After examining each affected disc with a magnifying glass, it was evident that separation of the layers had occurred at different points on each disc. In every mass-production process, there are very small numbers of products which are defective, or have defects which may deteriorate but not show up for some considerable time.
It's modern life I guess. There was once a rumour that cars made during a Monday or a Friday factory shift, were not made with the same attention that those made on other shifts had been. I suppose robot assembly lines took care of that one, but my last car would have been made by a hungover Monday shift, I think. Present one probably made by a Wednesday shift, all in a good mood! Both Fords, go figure ...
