    Error Loading Operating system

    Hello!

I know you all are quite good at helping others fix their problems, and I have been stalking these forums for quite some time. However, I have recently gotten an issue with my computer booting that I can not fix, or find a fix on here.

So, about two hours ago (On this current PC I am typing on now.), my computer decided it would basically freak out. I got a few three pop ups, saying sticky notes has crashed, gave me the option to select cancel. I got one pop up for each sticky note that I had up at that time.

Then curse had done the same thing, which I found was odd, as curse has NEVER once crashed on me.

Then suddenly, the dreaded BSOD appeared, and before I could even try to restart my computer, it shut it self off.

I went to start up my computer, thinking maybe it had just crashed. It did its normal start up stuff, got to the welcome screen, and took about 5 minutes to load past that. Once it did, another 5 minute load or so on a blank, black screen. I walked away as it was taking a while. I came back, and on the top of the screen, it said "Error Loading operating system."

I had no errors, or any other warnings before the system crash, nor did I have any viruses (Checked three days ago.)

My operating system is Windows 7, I use an Intel R Graphics card, and my computer is a HP touchsmart 520 PC, all in one, antivirus is the AVG free edition, and I use MalwareBytes, both are run on a regular basis.

Only a few minutes before the crash, it was making a low "beeping" noise, coming from near the disk drive, once every three seconds, it however, is not now.

I started my computer up in safe mode, took about 20 minutes, or so, as it was stuck loading a Driver for AVG for some reason. After a few moments, it stopped loading it, and the computer booted up in the normal mode.

I'm sorry for the long post, and any bad grammar. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and any way to help fix my issues I would love. As for needing any more information, let me know.

    Thanks!

Reboot into BIOS setup to see if the HD is detected. If so start with the HD tests and then work through the other Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

You'll note we recommend an AV which is not AVG, which hasn't been recommended anywhere for years since it bloated up and never slimmed back down. We only see problems with it here. I'd uninstall it and install MSE asap.

So the HD and AVG look like your likeliest suspects, however if you still have the HP factory preinstalled Win7 then that is the worst install of Win7 one can have, so it could be a combination of these or something altogether different which will likely turn up as you work through the steps.

Now would be a good time to consider getting that one great Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 since you only need to get it right once, then save a backup image in case you ever need to reinstall again it would be a 20 minute reimaging operation.

Since the computer that is in question, currently the one I am using, would it not be the HD that is messing up? I'm able to access all my files and so on. If it's not AVG that is the suspect, and it is indeed my HD, would getting a new HD fix it?

Also, could the connectors to the HD just be loose? I haven't moved my computer in quite a while, nor have I even taken apart one, so I wouldn't know what to look for to re-attach them.

I will also look into MSE. I've never heard of it before. I've used AVG for such a long time, due to it being free.

As for the Clean Reinstall. Would it cause me to lose all my data I have stored on my computer? I find it a bit of a pain to reinstall all of the data.

If the PC is booting now then work through the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 starting with the HD tests provided. I didn't say anything about buying a new HD. I said to test it. If it tests OK then proceed with the other steps. Report back results as you go.

If you read through the steps for a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 you will see one which deals with rescuiing your data on a PC that will not boot.

What is required in these operations is utter thoroughness, missing nothing. Everything is written out for you to follow so if you have any questions then ask them back.

Ok, thank you. I am currently running MSE on the computer I am on, so I wont do the other stuff until later.

Once I get ahold of a blank CD I will do the tests and post results. It may take a bit seeing as how much there is to do.
