    Windows Explorer Organisation

    Hi,

Is there any way I can order folders and files how I want them in Windows Explorer? I have seen the basic options we have Alphabetically/Numerically, File Size or Date Modified.
But would be handy if I could just move them into a random order if I want to. I will give an example to be clear as to what I mean.

So lets say I have a bunch of photo's in a folder all called, 001,002,003 ect is there any way I can get them into an order such as

    002
    007
    004
    009
    001
    013
    006

Or whichever I order I chose, I used to be able to do this on my Vista Laptop and would very much like to be able to do it again. I tried xplorer2 and didn't find it any better I would really like to stick with Win Explorer if possible as its familiar to me but if I really have to change to get this feature, so be it.
Maybe there are other file managers with similar look and feel to Windows Explorer?

    Look forward to reading reply's,

    Best Regards,

    Jay

    Good day,

I would try any from this list, just remember to uninstall them afterwards if they weren't the solution you were looking for so that your PC doesn't get gunked up!

    Hi,
Thanks for replying, I take it from you're reply that Windows Explorer cannot be adjusted to provide this feature?

In the mean time will plod thru that list and see if anything does what I need

From my searches and experience, your best bet will be to individually rename each file so that the photo's will fall in the order you wish. Annoying, I know... But the easiest method I have found isn't to trick the program, yet to work with it.

The ability to manually reorder the positions of individual items in an explorer windows was removed in Windows 7.

Other file managers may have this feature but I have no idea which ones. It is a feature I have never had any interest in.
