Anyone regret moving to Windows 7?

Interesting to read the views expressed here re Win 7.
May have to revise my plans & bring forward the purchase of a new Laptop with Win 7 Ultimate on it.

I don't regret it at all! At first I did because I thought some of my old programs were incompatible, but it was later due to a hardware issue.

I just love how you can snap two windows side by side or even have XP mode with an old program running right next to your Win7 programs. Makes multi-tasking so much easier.

I liked vista and now I bought w7. I like the OS but I think I payed too much for it. I bought the full version. I upgraded from vista 32 bit to windows 64 bit. I like now I can use more memory and have a performance score of 5.8 with vista it was 5.4. I gave the 32 bit verson to my wife so we both now have w7.

All this statement shows is that you haven't gotten used to using the new UI things yet and/or put them to use, you cannot say that Aero Snap, Shake, Peek, enhanced alt tab, and a better taskbar are not improvements.

I have to disagree with you there. Aero snap is crap and is the first thing I turned off. I like my desktop in a familiar format I've been using for years, so when I try to position my window and it suddenly snaps to the entire screen, or half the screen just because I'm close to the edge made me see stars. And MS could have made it easier to turn off without googling it. How about right click on the desktop and "turn off aero snap", would that have been so hard?

I also hate when you alt-tab between a bunch of open windows, if you pause for more than a second, everything becomes see-thru except the window you're on. That's very irritating when you have a movie or tv show playing in VLC and it disappears - and for what, just so you can make sure you KNOW what window has the focus? I don't know what that 'feature' is called but i'd turn it off in an instant if I could find out how to.

Overall I love Win7 and am not regretting it. I really missed the missing 'favorite links' being PINNED in windows explorer but after a while I've found out how to navigate around the way I used to almost as fast. I just hate when they remove functionality for 'prettiness'.

I loved Vista 64bit. It was fast and 100% rock stable for over a year that I used it. When Windows 7 beta came out I downloaded it and dual booted. After a week I stopped booting into Vista. Since then, Windows 7 has been my main OS. For me, the new features alone are reason enough to switch to Windows 7. The new taskbar is great.

I was about to sell and replace my early dual core (not core 2 duo) laptop which has xp sp3 on it and 1GB of ram, and decided instead to increase it to 4GB of ram and then do a clean install of win7 on it.

Glad I did - its very quick, every driver was properly installed at the first boot up (when has that ever happened?), and the power management is better, which effectively extended my battery life. Hard to say enough good things about this OS. I

All I would say is Don't buy windows 7 because it's new, buy it because it's better - for you.

I personally think it's a benefit to me and it helps my workflow, and so I use it.

If someone else has a Vista or XP install that is working for them I see no reason to update just for the sake of it

Your comments taken on board.
It's a catch 22 situation. If you don't have Win 7 you will never know.
Current Vista Ultimate 64 - bit has never given an ounce of trouble.
To participate meaningfully in SF it would seem logical to at least have the OS.
