unable to see desktop icons after login, with black screen in one of my friend's system (windows7 ultimate) . I tried one option by opening task manager, click on new task, type explorer.exe press enter then got desktop icons but problem repeats after restart, how to solve this problem. pls help
Once you get explorer.exe running again, go to start-control panel. User accounts. Create a new user admin account. Does the issue occur on the new account when logged into it?
If not, copy the data from the old account to the new user account, and delete the other account.
Are any other files hidden? Best run Malwarebytes full scan too.
If too unstable do the bootable AV scans and then test System files from Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start
