Restart at windows startup after first restart during gaming

    Good morning all,

Last night I was tooling around on The Elder Scrolls Online when my computer suddenly turned itself off and back on. Shrugged it off, got back in, tried to log back into the game, and shut down again. Updated vid drivers, ran registry cleaner, repaired game launcher and launched again. At launch, the comp crashed and reset again. Two more times as I tried running as admin to isolate the problem. Finally gave up on the game (figured it was due to the update) and swapped over to a different game. Upon launch of that game, the computer reset again. However this time it wouldn't even let me log into windows. Either after the password screen, or before it even gets there (but always during Windows startup) it resets.

Ran in safe mode + networking. No problems. Tried watching some you-tube videos on some repair options...computer reset again. Ran memtest86 on 4 passes. No errors. Woke up, got back on, same issues. Tried to watch videos in safe mode....and at random time it resets computer again. No other actions have been able to replicate the shut down.

The first shutdown produced an error when i restarted stating that d3dx9_42.dll was missing. I clicked OK on the screen, and it reset again.

    Welcome to SevenForums,

If you can still log onto windows desktop, you can try reinstall the Microsoft DirectX End-Users Runtimes(June 2010) full package from HERE

Seeing you have a custom build i assume you've got the Windows 7 DVD which can help you doing a System Repair directly from the DVD or accessing to the System Repair options at boot..

You can first do the basis, and here find some related Tutorials that might help you solving your star-up problem aswell:

System Recovery Options - How to Boot to the System Recovery Options in Windows 7

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Startup Repair - How to Run a Startup Repair in Windows 7

Disk Check - How to Run Disk Check in Windows 7

Also looking at your Specs, you're not overclocking that core i7 3770S on that z77 Sabertooth?

Thanks for the info, will try sys-repair now.

I was able to log back into windows normally for no apparent reason other than the PC gods allowed it.

Was even able to load up and play a graphically intense game for a few hours. Tabbed out (left the game running) to do some homework, went to tab back in and poof. Restart. Logged back into windows, started game, went to load in from the character select screen and bam. Restart again.

I have not OCed because to be honest I have had nothing but problems with this z77 board. Have had to RMA it twice for structural defaults and manufacturing error. I either got a bad run of mobo or this board is just flawed in general. Will run sys repair...the end-User Runetimes confuses me and I don't know how to install it, it just puts a hundred files on my desktop. It is beyond my geek level lol.

As a side note, I also have a startup problem that has been happening for a few weeks. Not sure if related. I get an update on startup that I need to install an ATK0100 driver.

That's an ACPI UTILITY Driver for the motherboard (see attachements, putted it here for you)....but i do not think you should care about it if you already have the Asus AI SUITE II software install or/and the Intel Management Engine Interface provided with the CD Install of your board. Looks it appears in the Device Manager (the ATK0100) in case those are not install.
