When you get your computer going like you want it, you need to download Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download
This program will make a copy of your Win 7 and all other files exactly as they are. If you run into problems, it takes about 15 minutes to restore a Macrium backup and your computer is exactly like it was before. I make new backups every week. They can be done automatically as you sleep. It is a free program and well worth it. Be sure and make the Macrium Boot disk (called Rescue Media on the Program Menu) after you install the program. It will boot your PC and allow you to restore a backup even if your PC will not boot.
I was not able to make a repair disc on my computer via the admin acct or my user acct. I get error:
system disc can't be created
error 0x80004005
from ms:
Error code 0x80004005
This problem may occur if a file that the Windows Product Activation (WPA) requires is damaged or missing. This behavior occurs if one or both of the following conditions are true:
I checked and almost everything is stopped. doesn't appear any interfering type programs are running
- A third-party backup utility or an antivirus program interferes with the installation of Windows XP.
- A file that WPA requires is manually modified.
so currently:
repair disc from hubby's computer (exact same model as mine) will not boot.
check of the bios indicates proper order: dvd, then hd
I can't make a repair disc on my computer, either via user acct (which I can only get into via safe mode and used recdisc.exe to try to make the disc) or my admin acct.
I have exhausted the repair options of the original problem (registry changes; but didn't fix the problem)
do I have any other options before I nuke?
oh, and restore point is not far enough back, so restore is not an option
and I didn't manually mod any wpa file
Go to message 7 in this thread. I listed a link where you can get a Windows 7 disk. It also has the Repair Disk on it. It should work OK with your PC. Use Hubby's PC and download the file and burn to a DVD at the slowest possible speed to make sure there are no errors on it. You can then boot yours with the disk and attempt a Repair.
if it helps any, when I start with the repair disc in, the screen is black w/a flashing white "-" in the upper left corner. the cd seems be start, stop, whirl, etc, and then it goes to the windows logon screen like normal
k. will do. thought that was for after I got the thing back up. sigh. this is gonna be a cluster. I can just tell.
