LCD of Laptop is dark, while pluged in

Hi all.
I am using Dell Inspiron 1520 on Windows 7 SP1.

I have a sudden problem :

The LCD is real dark, but when i disconnect the ac adaptor, it is ok. Also : there is no problem while using the battery. But while plugged in, the brightness is low.

I appreciate your help !

Is the laptop old?

It sounds like something is shorting inside the case.

Blow all the visible just away.

Have you tried the laptop brightness controls? a quick google says pressing the "FN" key + the up arrow should do it.
