I just did a quick test, clicking on a desktop folder, I right clicked to open then left clicked to open again, and after a minute or so I got the fault. The external drive was switched off, so I wouldn't have seen it.

I tried the same test again, and the folder opened instantly.

    Sigh.

Perhaps if you always leave the external drive switched on when the computer is in use you might not see the fault appear. You can test this theory anyway!

On another note also try checking the following:

Open an Explorer window and in the left pane expand "Libraries" then right click on your Documents Library and click "Properties" - it should point to "My Documents" like this:

    Server execution failed-my-documents.jpg

In the screenshot where is says "Chris" you should see your user name in it's place. If that's not the case or more than one location is shown post a screenshot if you can.

Are you the sole user of this machine? If not - try logging into another user's account to see if the same problem occurs.

I can't actually see Chris on that pic!

However, when I rightclick on do****s, then properties, I get C:\Users\Mike.

I could leave the external on but I would rather not. I find it odd that the fault seems to be a 'one off' as It diesn't happen for some time evn though I'm opening folders.

I'm the sole user, nobody gets to use my system!

    Server Execution Failed

There was supposed to be another picture attached to that last post but I didn't attach it! Anyway from what you've reported your Documents Library seems fine.

Now I'm wondering how your backup runs and how often? What software is being used and how are backups scheduled? Also did you manage to keep any eye on the drive letter that's being assigned to your external drive?

    One more suggestiion

I don't think that this could be a problem but try checking/ unchecking the checkbox shown in the screenshot below. Just reverse your current settings - check the box if currently unchecked or uncheck it if currently checked. Then test for a while after a reboot.

    Start> Computer> Organize> Folder Options> View

    Server execution failed-folder-options.jpg
