Perpetual start up repair purgatory.

    You should be using the ISO download and tool from Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. If this is a UEFI install then use UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows Option One. You should delete all partitions during install either way.

    Those steps will assure you get and keep a perfect install, for as long as you stick with the tools and methods given. Is there some reason you can't follow them?

    Unfortunately the problems continue.

    I purchased a new 8GB memory flash drive. A McAffe scan suggests it's clean and fine to use.

    I then used Rufus to make a bootable Windows 7 IOS.

    Following the link above I went with a UEFI install choosing the Rufus option of "GPT partition for UEFI".

    Rather than the "MBR partition for Bios or Uefi computer".

    I proceeded with Rufus to download a current X17- 58997 version of Windows 7 IOS.

    Rufus went through smoothly on the other computer taking 25 minutes and finished with "DONE" at the bottom of the screen.

    I then went to my problem Toshiba with windows 7 start up problems.

    I inserted the USB drive into the side of the computer (tried both USB inputs).

    Proceeded to start up the laptop and as it came to life pressed "F12" to get the boot menu.

    Scroll down to select and highlight USB and pressed enter...........blank screen for 2 seconds and then, Boot Menu appears with the USB highlighted in white. (I was on USB)...with the message;

    [USB TDK LoR TF10] is failed.

    This is the same message I get when I try to boot via CD/DVD...as in;

    [ CD/DVD TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633J ] is failed.

    I put the USB memory into the good computer and it shows a list of files;

    boot
    efi
    sources
    support
    upgrade
    autorun
    bootmgr
    bootmgr.efi
    setup.

    So I know there are files on the memory stick. It downloaded smoothly from Rufus without interruption.

    So, I am back to the problem where whatever I seem to do the laptop will not recognise any CD or USB and when you try to start up by Hard drive, it defaults into "Start up repair recommended" and will stay there forever!

    Help!......Is there anything else to try, I am really struggling with this now.

    Cheers.

    Tks Maxie..

    Why would windows 7 usb dvd download tol suggest 58997 is not a valid ISO file.

    I am on windows 8 having downloaded both ISO 58997 and windows 7 download tool, it shouldn't make any difference I am on W 8 surely???
    The file may not have been downloaded completely. Win8 should not matter. Make sure that after completing Win7 Home Premium x64 SP1 English Official ISO download that it is 3.1 gb in size

    Next make sure you have a UEFI BIOS - you can determine this by whether there are UEFI devices present to boot when you access the BIOS Boot order or one-time BIOS Boot menu key, then you need Rufus. If not try using UltraISO Software To Create Bootable USB Flash Drive which always works when the others don't. Make sure to use the format button first as shown in tutorial.

    In BIOS setup make sure the hard drive is detected and set to boot first. Then trigger the stick using the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key. It should be listed by name under USB, Removable or even HD's - you may need to expand a listing to see it.

    If you want to try to rescue your present install or files then access System Recovery Options to run a few Startup Repairs. It should offer to automate System Restore, but if not and it fails try System Restore from the list. If you want to continue trying everything to repair the install follow Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start. There is a step there to rescue your files using the Win7 disk or stick.

    Otherwise everything you need to get and keep a perfect install is in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 . Be sure to delete all partitions during the booted install to get it cleanest. Ask back any questions needed.

    Tks..Yard dog...if you read through my response,,I tried to do exactly as post #41 suggested. Having posted my exact procedure is there any part that is not in line with post#41 other than the response from my laptop?
    Cheers.

    gregrocker, I will try to make a new USB flash drive using the ultraISO software you suggested. Thank you.

    As for system recovery options and failure to start, those threads look great....BUT..

    As I keep pointing out, I don't get any options, other than default to "windows start up repair recommended".

    I go to advanced boot options,,,,select "repair your computer"

    I get the blue/black screen with a large white cursor.....

    In the last few days my laptop has sat there in this mode for over 30 hours now......with no difference.

    Guys, I am truly grateful for your assistance and expertise, but the links posted do not seem to sort my problem.

    My fundamental problem is the computer not starting up and defaulting to repair recovery.

    Thanks again!

    Then you must run Repairs from disk, not from the hard drive which may be corrupt or failing. This is why the tutorials all provide the disk to use for repairs, not F8 or auto-starting System Recovery Options

    90% of the time a failure to boot the media is a user failure. Try tapping Toshiba F12 Boot Menu key vigorously, try holding it down, etc. If continued failure, trying booting into BIOS setup to reset to defaults. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixthe.../clearcmos.htm Check USB settings to make sure they are all enabled, on all BIOS tabs.

    While in BIOS setup check all tabs for Storage or other hard drive listings to confirm the HD is even listed in BIOS as it may have failed. If not listed, try reinstalling hard drive in its bay to make better contact. Most models can be googled + Replace hard drive to see how it is accessed to reseat it. If not then replace it.

    gregrock, I tried running repairs from disk once F12 has opened the menu.

    this is the message I get..

    This is the same message I get when I try to boot via CD/DVD...as in;

    [ CD/DVD TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633J ] is failed.

    I cannot get CD/DVD or USB from the Boot menu to work without getting the "is failed" message.

    Currently writing UltraISO USB drive....is that now a waste of time/effort?

    Cheers.

    Did you confirm the ISO size to know it was fully downloaded?

    Continue with UltraISO write to flash stick. Format button first.

    Thanks for the links above,

    I have been into Bios set up options.

    Under Boot

    I have;

    HDD/SSD Toshiba MK6475GSX (highlighted)
    CD/DVD TssTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633J
    FDD
    LAN

    I do have a "Load default configuration now?" option

    So I tried that F10 to save and exit.

    I get the Toshiba scree for 2 seconds with F2 or F12 options.

    It then defaults to the familiar "Windows start up repair recommended"

    After 15 seconds we jump to the blue/black screen with the large white cursor, where it will sit for 30+ hours.

    What ever I do,,,we end up here!!!

    Cheers.

    Yes, size was as per original site, downloaded to new Laptop with windows 8 and rewritten to USB stick, all the same size.

    USB reformatted and recanned to make sure it is clean and ready to go......I am truly trying to follow procedure as clinically as possible!

    Cheers.
