Windows 7: bought a used desktop, flicking screen on boot up?

Linux CENTOS 7 / various Windows OS'es and servers

Hi there

depending on the mobo in the computer it might be worth going for a decent separate GPU - you don't have to go bonkers in buying a new one.

The other things to look for -- is the monitor OK - they do wear out eventually - even modern LCD / plasma ones. Check also if the driver is operating the monitor at the correct refresh rate.

If you are running Linux -- modern distros like MINT will probably load the correct driver - unless it's NVIDIA -- these have to be got separately from the NVIDIA repositories.

You can also run Windows easily as a Virtual machine on linux - VMware player and vbox install easily and are free.

When I'm in the UK - I HATE virgin media - they block a lot of sites although you can bypass that easy enough - I shouldn't have to go that route though and I still can't get to my US Netflix or Hulu tv stuff without going through decent proxies. For UK Virgin ISP users try this to unblock a lot of sites -- this uses the TOR network --totally LEGAL BTW.

Yep. Between the driver handover (which re-triggers the TV input source flicker as the TV "loses" it's input source for a split second) there is nothing to fix as mentioned. It's not causing any harm. I've had it when I've used a TV as a primary screen and even get it occasionally when going from 3 monitors to one, or to the TV.
