    Booting from a USB

    I'm about to reinstal Win7.

I have a Gigabyte 965p-ds3 mb and have created a bootable USB using Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool.

To boot from the USB I need to change BIOS and my 4 USB options are: USB-FDD, USB-ZIP, USB-CDROM and USB-HDD.

I've stepped through all of those and at no point is the USB detected.

Any ideas what else I can try?

You shouldn't have to change BIOS, leave it as you normally have it. I have mine set to boot the hard drive first.

Use the one time Boot Menu key, often F12 though it varies with the manufacturer, to bring up the Boot Menu where you can select the USB flash drive to boot from. The flash drive has to be installed when you boot or it won't be seen.

Does the Flash drive show in an Explorer window (Computer)?

Is the USB port 3.0? Do you have the 3.0 driver for the mobo (if it needs it)

Easy test - try another USB port.

One last question - are you installing UEFI?
If you are, then the media you created will not do the trick. A Win7 UEFI install requires FAT32 file system, the Windows download tool formats the Flash drive as NTFS.
