    Comment for program do not display on mouse over in the Start Menu


    Good Afternoon,

    The Windows 7 documents says Windows 7 does this:
    "If you're ever unsure what a program does, move the pointer over its icon or name. A box appears that often contains a description of the program. For example, pointing to Calculator displays this message: "Performs basic arithmetic tasks with an on-screen calculator." This trick works for items in the right pane of the Start menu, too."


    This does not work on my computer. Does anyone have any idea why this does not work on my computer? Does this work on anyone's computer?

    Double check to make sure that you have pop-up descriptions enabled.

    Pop-up Descriptions - Enable or Disable

    Welcome to Sevenforums,

    Check in the Folder Options - Open if pop-up description is enable (checked box).

    And if in the System Properties Visual Effects Settings - Changeif Balloon Tips is checked.

    This is a great help!

    1)Double check to make sure that you have pop-up descriptions enabled

    I checked this in my folder options and it is enabled.

    2) And if in the System Properties Visual Effects Settings - Changeif Balloon Tips is checked.

    Balloon Tips is not listed in the Visual Effects Settings... could it be somewhere else?

    The comment still does not show up on Start Menu mouse over...

    In that case, double check to see if doing step 2 in OPTION ONE below may help if the pop-up delay timing got changed somehow.

    That is checking in my preferences.


    Here's a bit more information: When I hover over the 'Start' button, the word 'Start' shows up in a little bubble. However, when I open the Start Menu and hover over any of the items, the little bubbles as described in the documentation don't show up.

    If this just started to happen recently, then you may be able to do a system restore using a restore point dated before this started to hopefully undo and fix it.

    Something to check


    Try this:

    Start > Run then type

    regedit

    Press Enter

    Navigate to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

    If you see NoSMBallonTip in the right pane with a value set to 1 - double click and change it to 0

    Reboot and test. If no change undo the above!

Hi Folks, I have run into a curious and frustrating problem that I can't seem to get a handle on or find any solutions from searching here and Google. My mouse pointer has suddenly changed when it's anywhere on the start menu. Instead of the basic white arrow, it's now the vertical style...
Before, when I would type anything into my seach menu, pretty much everything on the computer would show up, now only certain things do. I did the properties, display all folders, etc and it is doing the same thing. How can I fx this? Windows 7 ultimate, 64 bit HP
these two programs are NOT newly installed, they were installed couple of days ago. They were not highlighted until I use CCleaner to clean hard disk... Right after using CCleaner to do a hard disk clean, and reboot, then I found 2 or 3 programs get highlighted. These programs were the last few...
I think the only thing that will work here is a registry hack. By default if you set the start menu properties to display "favorites" it does so by a menu. It does not give you a choice to display this as a link or a menu like it does for other folders. Is there a way to fix this?
Start Menu All programs does not display any Icons, its just blank which of course leaves the system somewhat crippled. Does the same thing from the Administrators account as well.
