How do I remove certain shortcuts from the start menu in Windows 7?

Can someone help me out here? I want to remove the following Icons from the start menu
    Default Programs
Internet Explorer both 32 and 64 bits
    Windows Update

I know I can set a GPO to get rid of Default Programs-that one is not an issue
I ready I can chance a policy to get rid of WIndows Update, but that kills the entire update process-need that
    and no clue on IE.
    Can anyone help?
