Computer hangs for a short period and then resumes

I have been having this problem for about a year now where my computer hangs for a few seconds and then resumes. During the 'freeze', I can still move my mouse, but programs stall or won't open until the freeze is 'over'. If there is a media player playing, it'll freeze and loop the audio or just crash completely. When I'm listening to music, It'll stop and then resume after the freeze. The problem never leads to BSOD or anything, but it's getting pretty annoying.

I have run chkdsk several times and there were no errors and I'm sure all of my drivers are updated.

Anyone know what the problem may be?

I think its a small virus causing the problem. You can check online with many brands of antivirus to see what you might have. :)
The virus may be taking many resources from your computer so you have this issues or perhaps its part of the problems that the virus is supposed to do.
Also, I suggest you to make a backup of your files because you never know what these kind of problems will lead to
Tell us if you find a virus during your checks.

Thanks for all of the replies. I just booted in safe mode and the freezing doesn't occur there. I also did a virus scan with Malwarebytes, nothing serious came up. I should also point out that the freezing only occurs at random intervals, it isn't a constant thing (it has only happened twice today so far).

'Kernel-Processor-Power' is a constant error in Event Viewer.

From the event log.. seems it may be a intermittent power supply issue. which needs more diagnostics to find what exactly the issue is.. maybe someone else can offer some advice .

It is very hard to diagnose a problem unless you fill in your System Specs completely. We need to know what you have on your PC. You can use Speccy - Publish Snapshot of your System Specs to get the Specs you don't know. Thanks,
