How many are going back to Vista or XP?

While boot up and shutdown times seem to be about the same I have noticed desktop operations to be a little faster in Windows 7 v/s Vista or XP. That's about the extent of my satisfaction so far. Just about everything else has been an exercise in frustration for me. This is really starting to piss me off. Win 7 was supposed to be the next big thing in OS and easier for all of us "normal people". For me as a NON GEEK most anything that I would want to try in this new product either doesn't work without major tweaking, sucks massively or requires buying new hardware to make it work. Based on previous XP graphic card performance Windows 7 is considerably worse now. Precious few working drivers for ANY hardware is available yet. After several hours I finally got one of my printers to work.

I'm going to give it another two weeks or so and hope for a much needed SP1. After that I'll probably just go back to XP and Ubuntu. I'm so glad I pre-ordered 7 and only paid $50.00. If I had paid the full pop $120.00 I probably would have eaten a bullet by now....

Going from XP a clean install is the only option. As I said I'm a NON GEEK. Why should I have to know better with what is being touted as a user friendly OS?

It was the same when XP was the new OS (people said it looked good but was hard to use),XP set a standard,Vista didnt lol but now i think windows 7 has aswell,personally i really really like it once you get used to it.

One point though,they might have thought ahead with drivers,that is the 3rd party programs devolpers themselves to coincide there new drivers with the release of win7,but..my ATI and Realteck are running perfect,so i cant really complain.

Also you have to remember XP is 10 years old,tech was easier then,but as the world went forward technology wise Windows has to keep up (internet,virus's,HD) . Win7 came with most of this ,where as XP did not.

But on another point,your a self described non-geek,so setting up a dual boot would seem complicated,most non-geeks usally do get a PC store to do all this for them,im not having a go,just saying what usally happens here ,they bring it back and get it fixed,and they dont touch windows files etc

It seems to be its only when people try to use old software with new software/hardware/OS you have problems,if you think about it, a 10 year old car of the same make and model you will rarely find a part that is exchange-able,you usally buy new parts.
At least windows 7 gives you the option to run a program designed for a 10 year old program on it.

Two people, same operating system, but two different opinions. True, 7 is not the perfect OS, but definately better than Vista. Works just as well or a bit better than Vista, but has many nice (some just cutsey, but fun) and one awesome one in particular. I just love the ability to make a system image. In fact I used it once already. Task scheduler worked right the first time and then it just malfunctioned, a few minutes later, with an image just a day old, I was back in business (this was my only less than perfect experience to date.) How about the abilty to look at two screens side by side and the updated task bar. Yes, its just Vista the way it should have been, but its better, so why would I go back. I have no experience with XP so I can't comment. Unlike the earlier comments, I think that it 50 bucks very well spent.

I cant imagine going back to XP. I would use Vista, but XP is a closed chapter for me. Im so satisfied and happy using 7. Its like the Vista experience with improved functionality and performance.

Vista took some getting used to. I struggled with it for a while at first due to all the changes. But going from Vista to 7 was a breeze. I would imagine from XP to 7 would be a real shock. Give it some time. It will grow on you in a good way.

I had XP on my desktop before the Win7 install and still have Vista on my laptop. No big problems with use of either of them. Win 7 isn't a big shock for me to use other than the supposedly cool things like Media Center won't work with Microsoft approved hardware. Video performance is way below par. Boot and shutdown times are the same or worse than XP or Vista. Admittedly I don't have a cutting edge $3000.00 system but it passes the Microsoft Windows 7 test.

At the risk of sounding like a whiner, dammit I just want the OS to do what it is advertised to do.
