You know, I have to say this.
I use to dread everything to do with computers, until I started learning how to do things on my own. Yes it does suck when you have to find workarounds to things that you shouldn't have to, but it teaches us things. We should not just skip it and go back to old technology, we should embrace it and learn, move on, and enjoy it.
I see a lot of people complaining about things, such as some things not working without a few tweaks/workarounds, or some things just not the way they want it.
All I have to say is, if you don't like learning, then why are you using a PC? Thats part of using a PC. Get over it.
:)
Just be happy that you elected to skip Windows Vista. Unfortunately, as times change and operating systems evolve...some of the older hardware is left behind and has to be replaced.
I've installed on 2 computers at home, 3 workstations at work and 1 laptop and I've pretty much had 90% of the hardware work right out of the box...with no 3rd party drivers needed. The only things I actually loaded drivers for were video card and webcam. My printer is networked...so i just connected to my print server and it hooked right up.
I think with the relative stability and overwhelming response to Windows 7 thus far....it's going to be some time before we see an SP1. Many of us have already been running Windows 7 for 6 months or more with the Betas and Release Candidate.
After that I'll probably just go back to XP and Ubuntu. I'm so glad I pre-ordered 7 and only paid $50.00. If I had paid the full pop $120.00 I probably would have eaten a bullet by now....
The retail version of Windows 7 has been a much better experience for me than the beta was. I have only had it installed for about 48 hours but it has been problem free thus far, the sleep mode even works the way it should. I think it`s a keeper.

My system cost me €800 (pretty basic),you can see my specs in the tab to the bottom left of my post.It came with a 20" Monitor and free Kaspersky 2010.
And it runs quicker Win7 64bit Ultimate quicker than it ran Vista 64bit home premium.[/QUOTE]
My specs are in my online list as well.
Quicker isn't the only issue for me. I just want the features that I bought the new OS for to work for me without several of hours of downloads, updates, upgrades, setup, workarounds and frustration.
Please try to envision those of us that don't sit in front of a computer all day and make our living repairing what should have been right in the first place. We like to check our e-mail, maybe play a game or two and watch or save a future TV program with our Windows 7 compatible USB TV tuner. Not a lot to ask really. Unless it's Microsoft, then you go through hell on earth trying to get anything to operate as advertised.

I cannot actually answer that question. I have to keep multiple computers in the house with different OS's on it to meet my needs.
Linux is wonderful, but can be a challenge. Mac's are alright, but hardware is so limited and is so expensive. Windows is likely the most well rounded, but it sometimes comes at a cost.
