How many are going back to Vista or XP?

But going from Vista to 7 was a breeze. I would imagine from XP to 7 would be a real shock. Give it some time. It will grow on you in a good way.

BTW Turbojoe... Hello from Queen Creek!
I had XP on my desktop before the Win7 install and still have Vista on my laptop. No big problems with use of either of them. Win 7 isn't a big shock for me to use other than the supposedly cool things like Media Center won't work with Microsoft approved hardware. Video performance is way below par. Boot and shutdown times are the same or worse than XP or Vista. Admittedly I don't have a cutting edge $3000.00 system but it passes the Microsoft Windows 7 test.

At the risk of sounding like a whiner, dammit I just want the OS to do what it is advertised to do.

My system cost me €800 (pretty basic),you can see my specs in the tab to the bottom left of my post.It came with a 20" Monitor and free Kaspersky 2010.

And it runs quicker Win7 64bit Ultimate quicker than it ran Vista 64bit home premium.

You know, I have to say this.

I use to dread everything to do with computers, until I started learning how to do things on my own. Yes it does suck when you have to find workarounds to things that you shouldn't have to, but it teaches us things. We should not just skip it and go back to old technology, we should embrace it and learn, move on, and enjoy it.

I see a lot of people complaining about things, such as some things not working without a few tweaks/workarounds, or some things just not the way they want it.

All I have to say is, if you don't like learning, then why are you using a PC? Thats part of using a PC. Get over it.

    :)

this new product either doesn't work without major tweaking, sucks massively or requires buying new hardware to make it work. Based on previous XP graphic card performance Windows 7 is considerably worse now. Precious few working drivers for ANY hardware is available yet.
I'm sorry to hear of you're troubles and can fully understand your frustration Joe, but sometimes you have accept the fact that you can't put a super-charger on a Model-T Ford.

Win 7 was supposed to be the next big thing in OS and easier for all of us "normal people". For me as a NON GEEK most anything that I would want to try in this new product either doesn't work without major tweaking, sucks massively or requires buying new hardware to make it work.
Just be happy that you elected to skip Windows Vista. Unfortunately, as times change and operating systems evolve...some of the older hardware is left behind and has to be replaced.

I've installed on 2 computers at home, 3 workstations at work and 1 laptop and I've pretty much had 90% of the hardware work right out of the box...with no 3rd party drivers needed. The only things I actually loaded drivers for were video card and webcam. My printer is networked...so i just connected to my print server and it hooked right up.

I'm going to give it another two weeks or so and hope for a much needed SP1.
I think with the relative stability and overwhelming response to Windows 7 thus far....it's going to be some time before we see an SP1. Many of us have already been running Windows 7 for 6 months or more with the Betas and Release Candidate.

After that I'll probably just go back to XP and Ubuntu. I'm so glad I pre-ordered 7 and only paid $50.00. If I had paid the full pop $120.00 I probably would have eaten a bullet by now....

The retail version of Windows 7 has been a much better experience for me than the beta was. I have only had it installed for about 48 hours but it has been problem free thus far, the sleep mode even works the way it should. I think it`s a keeper.

My specs are in my online list as well.

Quicker isn't the only issue for me. I just want the features that I bought the new OS for to work for me without several of hours of downloads, updates, upgrades, setup, workarounds and frustration.

Please try to envision those of us that don't sit in front of a computer all day and make our living repairing what should have been right in the first place. We like to check our e-mail, maybe play a game or two and watch or save a future TV program with our Windows 7 compatible USB TV tuner. Not a lot to ask really. Unless it's Microsoft, then you go through hell on earth trying to get anything to operate as advertised.

Not everything can work for everyone, especially since theres such a wide variety of hardware. Perhaps you should keep that in mind. :)

None, thats entirely up to you. I am just being realistic, if people want Microsoft to make the OS lighter, quicker, more responsive, they cannot keep all the 10-year-old drivers in the OS otherwise it will turn into a 25-30gb install.

I cannot actually answer that question. I have to keep multiple computers in the house with different OS's on it to meet my needs.

Linux is wonderful, but can be a challenge. Mac's are alright, but hardware is so limited and is so expensive. Windows is likely the most well rounded, but it sometimes comes at a cost.
