    Chaos in my computer....

[Dell Inspiron 560 desktop; MS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit; Windows Live Mail 2012; MS Word Pro 2003; Mozilla Firefox 22.0]

For 2 days now I’m experiencing all at once a severe unstable computer while working on my emails, like, the page where I’m working keeps going away or changing for another page or pages, every minute or so when I do any of the email functions it just locks up, or, it takes too long while that little circle goes round and round taking up to 15 minutes during which I can’t do anything.

This happens each time I switch from one function to another, like opening a file or copying or whatever. Many times though there’s no way I can get out of that lockup and have to shut off the computer altogether (the wrong way), like when, getting tired of waiting, I went out for 4 hours and on returning....that cursed little circle was still going round and round on a locked up computer!!! I had to shut it off half a dozen times today so I could get just a little work done.

The mouse cursor goes berserk too. And typing a word takes many seconds as each letter appears after a long pause. No error messages at all.

Sorry for lengthy description, but don’t know if there’s one or 2 words to describe all of this and wanted to make sure I gave sufficient info. I can’t tell whether it’s caused by my WLMail, my Firefox , the Win7, or, the hard drive? It does it also on Word as well as on Firefox.

I tried to use the Ccleaner and also Malwarebytes Antimalware but they were acting up too and couldn’t scan. It only gives me a little break from time to time and I’m grabbing this break to ask for help. I’m at the end of the rope. Thanks so much for any suggestions. Adela

    Try this:

    1. Click Start
    2. In the search box, type cmd
    3. In the list that appears, right-click on cmd.exe and choose Run as administrator
    4. In the command window that opens, type sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Now repeat the steps 1 to 4 an additional 2 times, then report the output from the command window once it finishes.

Run Windows Update - install all updates offered.

Thanks very much Golden! I did that 3 times and the last report says:

"Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations"

I wanted to copy all the results but it doesn't let to copy.

I managed to have Malware Bytes Anti Malware scan, but it didn't find any bad files...

How can this be??? I also tried to scan with Ccleaner and it did but it changed from the last time I used it and I couldn't understand the results....if any.

What else can I do? Thank you again. Adela

How does it behave if you boot to Safe Mode with Networking? If better than something is starting when you boot normally that is causing the problem. Use a Clean Boot to identify the cause:

Thank you Ztruker, I didn't try the Safe Mode as I never did that, but will try to do it. Is "Networking" when someone uses my computer or they have it connected to theirs? If so, I don't have network.

I thought "clean boot" meant reinstalling the OP. I'm glad it doesn't. Thanks also for the link with step by step instructions. I'll try it but in looking into them may I ask you?:

Is this what I should NOT DO?:

On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.

Note This step lets Microsoft services continue to run. These services include Networking, Plug and Play, Event Logging, Error Reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you may permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use the System Restore utility together with existing restore points.

Also, the link for a clean boot video doesn’t work....Thank you again. :) Adela

Just follow the steps as written for Windows 7 to do a Clean Boot.

Video doesn't work for me either but you don't need it, just follow the steps for Windows 7 and Windows Vista.

When that's done, follow the steps below that: What is next when I have a clean boot environment?

When your done, do the last part: How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting
