Want Related Items pop up at left side of screen removed.

Hi, I have a problem.......every time I go on to a page or thread (on any forum) I get a pop up at the left side of the screen that says "related searches" and contains about 4 or 5 items probably related to the thread I'm viewing but do not want to have as it blocks out at least 1/5 of the screen.

It can be removed by clicking on a very small cross in a square box, but as the pop up occurs every time I turn a page over, not only on this forum but on all other forums I log on to, it gets extremely frustrating to have to keep doing it just to see the full page.

I have the pop up blocker set at full block, and keep also getting a reminder at the bottom of the screen that some item has been blocked etc.

This has only just happened in the last week........it has actually only started to happen since I logged onto Facebook and Skype after a long absence, but I don't know if that is significant.

Is there a setting somewhere that I have inadvertently OK'd that allows the pop up to be present or is this something new to Win 7?

How do I get rid of the function?
    Ian.

One option is to run a Flash and/or JavaScript blocker in your browser (e.g. NoScript in Firefox-based browsers).

Also, have you checked for malware on your PC?

Hi, I have Nortons on the go but otherwise computers are just black boxes to me.

This problem has only happened in the last week and I assumed that it was a new feature added by Microsoft, but it's extremely annoying.

Would having Facebook on this computer cause that to happen as I only had Facebook on my previous Win XP based computer and haven't used it in 2 years since I got the HP with Win 7.....I also added Skype to this computer, another program that I only used on the Win XP computer 2 years ago.

Hi, I use Yahoo7 for internet browsing and also Google Chrome because my banking won't work with yahoo 7.

The computer is an HP Pavilion, I5, 8 Gb ram running Win 7 Home etc, about 2 years old and has been without the problem as listed.

This problem only started last week after I logged onto Facebook and also Skype.

I also now get warnings from Nortons that I am being attacked by a virus called Yoono or something like that, which Nortons has disable and assures me my computer is safe.

You probably have some malware. And no it is not part of Windows.

Your computers Windows 7 does not put things on web pages you visit.
Who ever made the web page put them there.

Still need a screen shot. Use this tutorial.

That link wants me to pay out $99.

My anti virus program does not indicate that any malware is present.

Something appears to be overriding my pop up blocker and I get another one when I go on EBAY......but in that case I get another one that pops out sideways from the right hand side offering special deals on EBAY etc as well as the Related Searches pop up on the left top side.

All this only started happening over a week ago when I installed Facebook and Skype on this computer........F/B and Skype were on my old Win XP computer which ceased working 2 years ago.
