Can't connect to Windows online help

Even though I have a good internet connection I can't connect, I keep getting a pop up box stating:
"You're not connected to online Help, which shows you our latest content. Check your Internet connection, and then try to connect to online Help again. If you still see this message, the online Help service might be temporarily unavailable". Have been trying to connect to this service for weeks now any time of day or night, little help please...?

Make sure you're not connected to a proxy server:

    1) Under “Tools” in the browser tool bar select “Internet Options”.
    2) In the “Internet Options” window that pops up, click the “Connections” tab at the top.
    3) Click “LAN Settings” near the bottom of the “Connections” section.
    4) If the “Proxy server” checkbox is marked with a check, click it to deselect/uncheck it.
    5) Click “Ok” to close the “Local Area Network (LAN) Settings” window.
    6) Click “Ok” to close the “Internet Options” window.
    Reboot
Make sure "Proxy server" is still disabled under your LAN Settings.
Test whether internet connectivity is restored.

From time to time I have seen that message. Microsoft seems to take it offline and work on stuff and then put it back. I don't think it is anything to worry about. Right now mine is working.

You can try clicking online help in the bottom right, then click settings. Check both boxes and click ok. See if that helps.

You can also try resetting internet explorer. (Helps connection settings use ie and the ie engine.)

See here: (make sure to check to delete personal settings)

Thanks for reply Andrew. Tried what you suggested. Completely reset IE, including the personal settings. Did not help. This is definitely a problem on this machine. My other computers have no problem getting online help, so it is not a factor of MS being offline.

Got any other suggestions? I am wide open.....

Are you having problems connecting to the internet in any other programs or web browsers? If not, I am not sure what is going on. You could try running sfc.

Please Run sfc /scan now using option 2 in this tutorial: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

    Please post back the results.
Please indicate what message was displayed at the end:

    Windows found no integrity violations

    OR

Corrupt files were found, and windows was unable to fix them.

    OR

Corrupt files were found, and windows successfully repaired them
