FYI, I have resolved SR issues like I have done so before, twice with my Vista HP(absolutely legal OS) and once with this current W7 HP (of questionable OS legality)..by doing step by step instructions from one blogger..

From internet blogs, I gather that SR issues are prevalent. I cannot imagine all those involved with SR issues are illegal.

You guys just presumed my SR issues were consequent to the possibility that my OS is illegal. Wrong! Wrong on both counts. I contacted the ebay seller and he assured me that my OS was installed and activated legally.

       Note
Let's keep this friendly shall we.

Let's determine the genuine status of the installation first, and go from there. :)

Hi Brink...when I bought this used unit 8 months ago , it never dawned on me that seller might install OS illegally(This was the first time I ever bought anything used).

Despite seller's assurance now that it's installation and activation are legal, I am not really interested to find out for sure as I have no intention to spend more than $100.00 for a retail W7 to install on an old unit whose life expectancy is undetermined. One responder claims it is at least 6 yrs. old.

I presented a simple problem and responders turned it into a cyber lynching frenzy. Genuine or not, I will never again allow myself to be subjected to such attack. If you think I should be kicked out of W7, feel free to do so.

This is my last post on this OS status matter.

In case this is my last visit to W7 forum, let me remind everybody that my 7 yr. old HP (bought new with OEM Vista) had identical SR problems at least twice, had BSOD's and crushings and start failures several times(all due to Trojans). Just to iterate these things happen to any PC, legal or not.

The installation is counterfeit - enabled by a hacker's Activation Exploit - the Key is for an Acer computer, not an HP.

You need to reformat and reinstall using genuine media and Key.

"You need to reformat and reinstall using genuine media and Key."

Not on this possibly 6 yr. old used unit which at the moment is functioning very well. I'll wait for its demise and just buy a brand new unit.

Then we are unable to further help you with this PC.

This is why we wanted to check to see if it's genuine or not because that is often the cause of many issues, and that we cannot help with illegally activated Windows.

If you would like further help, then you would need to become legal first.
