As Daniel says he doesn't have access to another PC then he can't download and burn as ISO of any sort. Only guessing here but it doesn't look as if this laptop will support Windows 7 and even if it did I wonder if it would be worth the expense of buying a retail version of 7!
I think the only option is for Daniel to take this to a local PC repairer and get an opinion there! Might not be worth the expense though.

Make sure the disk is clean. Try booting it in another PC to see if it is a problem with the way you are booting it or with the CD.

How exactly are you trying to trigger the disk to boot it? Is the DVD drive set first to boot in BIOS setup, or are you tapping the Boot Menu key at startup? Try both.

I tried the disk on a old packardbell desktop and it worked without fault. I've tried all of what you said in that message and it all goes to blue screen

My two cents worth mate I think the machine is past it and I would be replacing it and just do a dual boot if you have to have XP.

Try resetting the BIOS to defaults: How To Clear CMOS (Reset BIOS) [Easy, 10 to 15 Min]

If this fails boot the HD maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan to run the full test, then wipe the HD with Quick Wipe on all diagnostics disks. This will force the XP installer to autostart.

You can also use Partition Wizard CD to do a Surface Scan on the HD, then from the Disk tab Quick Wipe the hard drive.

You can replace the machine but why give up?

Instead of using the machine as a doorstop it can almost always be made to run as a decent backup machine unless there is catastrophic hardware failure.

I never give up and you shouldn't either. Testing and learning is best on a PC exactly like this.
