laptop freezes at random every few seconds

    Hello there,

Since a few days my computers freezes for about a second sometimes. It happens at random intervals but sometimes as frequent as every few seconds.

The cursor freezes and is no longer animated, and also the sound freezes. I have the impression that keypresses are registerred when it freezes,ut only have effect afterwards.

Sometimes it freezes during startup as i can here the startup sound freezing.

The machine is an HP elite book 8540p.

Will do a disk and memory scan from hp diagnostics now.

    regards,

    marcel

I have recently updated my windows, and have had some trouble with some usb devices taking a while being recognised before, not sure if that might be related?

Try System REstore to a point before the Updates to see if it corrects the problem.

You can also work through the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 starting with the hardware tests.

Is this the Factory install of WIn7 which is the worst possible install one can have? Look over the steps for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to go from worst to best.

Did a memory and hd scan from the HP diagnostics, no errors were found... But when i tried to reboot, i got an error message suggesting to do a system restore. It turned out it restored the system to a point before the one i tried before, and now the problem seems to be gone.

Although I haven't had a hicup all day, I wonder what kind of steps i can take to keep my machine updated and prevent similar problems in the future.

I have been running fine till now. My laptop reboots sometimes, it has only happened when i was not acively using the mahcine. Not sure if its the same issue?

I cheked the event manager and found a critical error: Kernel-Power id 41. Any hints at what this might be?

I am using this laptop quite intensively, i'm considering buying a new one.

In my device manager there are about 8 Bluetooth Peripheral Devices with missing drivers... might be related?

Go to the Support Downloads webpage for your model PC to find those drivers. If you need help let us know.

I'd also look over these steps to do a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which may be better than buying a new PC since they come with preinstalled Win7 which is worst possible install of Win7 one can have. Why not the best instead of wasting money when it may not be needed.
