Windows 7 Crashing minutes after startup

    Hi guys,

I'm experiencing constant crashing after logging into my computer after a few minutes, and have been going into safe mode to see if it is a driver problem as well as attempt to backup my files. I am not sure if this is considered blue screen but it sure acts like one to my eyes. I have not been able to do much in the short amount of time I have after I log in and was wondering if I could receive assistance.

A little backstory on what happened before this problem:

-My computer randomly shut itself down (as if it was doing an automatic windows update)

-I got into boot and it suggested a CHKDSK which I attempted to skip by hitting a key, but it ignored this each time I tried, and would continue to do CHKDSK.

-Each time the CHKDSK would freeze and crash my computer at around 50% completion, but eventually I was able to get past it and complete the CHKDSK

-WIndows updates ran, and I was eventually presented the log-in screen

-Now I am unable to use my computer for more than a few minutes due to freezes.

    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Did the problem occur in Safe Mode too? If not you could try:
System Restore (in your case try option two: do a a system restore at boot)
Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

If the problems should be hardware related see these troubleshooting steps:
