Windows 7: Weird Crashes That Disable Desktop?!

Weird Crashes That Disable Desktop?!

Hello everyone, really hope someone can help me out here.

Recently, I've been experiencing weird crashes on my computer. Basically my computer will "crash" at random times, but in a strange way. Whatever task I'm currently doing will be closed, the start button and task bar will completely disappear, all my desktop icons will disappear and the only thing that shows is my desktop wallpaper. I can't right click anywhere on the desktop, it's literally just my background and nothing else.

Now, I can CTRL ALT DEL, so it seems that its just the desktop crashing somehow? Its getting really annoying now because I have to CTRL ALT DEL and log off, then log back on again to get my desktop back.

Any ideas guys?

Here are my specs if you need them:

OS: Windows 7 home premium 64 bit
CPU: Intel i7 4790k
GPU: Geforce GTX 750ti
RAM: Corsair Vengence Pro 8gb 2400mhz
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97x Gaming 5
CPU Cooler: Corsair H55 Liquid Cooler
PSU: Corsair CX600 80 Plus Bronze 600w
Hard Drive(s): 1tb Seagate Barracuda Sata 6Gb/s 64mb Cache 7200rpm x2

Usually when that situation occurs it meant that Windows Explorer had crashed. Logging off or restarting suggest a problem with memory so I'd start by getting memtest86 and run it several times to check your RAM.

It means the screen will freeze with the last frame and the sound is buzzing, like BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. That's the easiest way to describe it. 2 weeks ago, i made a post here:...

Lately I have a weird startup and shutdown sound. I've never had Sounds turned on. I went to Control Panel/Sounds/Sounds and it indicated No Sounds scheme. Tried some of the sounds and they work. Changed scheme to Cityscape and tested. It worked. I rebooted. Changed scheme to No Sounds. ...
