How to stop a service from running on boot up

I see a service running in Process Explorer called VBoxSVC.exe

It runs every time I boot the machine. I can't find it in Services.msc. I don't know the name of the service.

How can I stop it from running every time it boots?

    Win7 sp1 64bit

    Thanks,

Do you have VirtualBox starting up at boot?

    Yes.

How can I stop it from running every time I re-boot?

    It's VBoxSVC.exe

    Thanks,

    • Click on Start
    • Type in msconfig and hit enter
    • Click on the Startup tab
    • Uncheck VirtualBox
    • Click apply
    • Reboot

    Thanks for the reply...

I don't have anything in startup called VirtualBox or anything that is starting from the folder VirtualBox was installed in.

    Thanks,

I can't actually find any way of ending the process other than uninstalling VBox. Apologies, I thought you had VBox starting at boot.

VirtualBox doesn't support running a VM as a service. There is a 3rd party that created VBoxVMService.exe. I have Uninstalled their service.

Do you know of a program that will show me the name of this service so I can stop/uninstall it?

    Thanks,

Look into 'Services' whether it is ther. Right click on it > Properties, there you can disable it.

    I have figured it out.

    I re-installed VBoxVmService.
I ran a program that gets installed with VBoxVmService:
    VmServiceControl.exe -u
    That Uninstalled the VBoxVmService.
    Re-booted.

VBoxVmService wasn't running as a service before I reinstalled VBoxVmService.
After installing VBoxVmService and uninstalling the VBoxVmService service VBoxSVC.exe was Uninstalled also.

    Thanks for your help,
