    Regarding Win7 Crashes!

    Greetings Everyone!

    I just registered! :)

My Bio: Bought my first PC in 1987 with 2x 5.25" Floppy drives! Upgraded to 1x 3.5" Floppy and 20 MB HD! Worked for Data General Corp., mini-mainframe manufacturer in the 1980's. Miami-Dade County-Telecom Division in the 1990's....worked on the interfacing of PC population with the IBM Mainframe. Also led the Barcoding Project for County Fixed Asset Inventory!

Win 7 crash history! It's been happening to me over the past several months! I have Driver Update software, Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, CCleaner and Carbonite to provide security and enhanced performance! I use Firefox and IE occasionally! I shut down Firefox and am now only using IE! So far, no more crashes!

    Anyone know why?

    Lawrence W.

Go to this site. They will either say you have the most up to date or tell you to download it. If you do not have most up to date, download now.

That is where I found my version 33.0.2.

Underneath the version it said, "Firefix is up to date"

    Good
Since I am not there we have to go step by step and hope that we do get the solution.
As of now I think that the problem is caused by FF and a conflict with other software.
Go into clean boot mode. Use FF long enough to be sure that it will or will not crash.
If you do not crash put the software back one by one as explained in the tutorial.
If you do crash put them all back and we will try another method.

What driver update software are you using on a driver-complete OS?

    This can cause problems.

If you can System Restore to before you installed that, then follow the correct procedure to enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) to Check for Updates, install all Important and Optional Updates, with requested reboots, until there are no more offered. This is how WIn7 delivers the drivers IT wants, as well as critical patches.

    Preventing FireFox-related Crashes!

Richard: Yes, FF appears to have a connection to the crashes! I periodically check my Startup folders for files that don't belong there and I remove them! I will continue to monitor activities until the problem is resolved and post the results of my findings to share with my fellow members! Thanks for your input and suggestions!

Gregg: I've been using SlimDriver's upgraded version of DriverUpdate! I will review that situation and work on using the Windows Driver Update version that has been rather elusive when it comes to being available. Thanks to you for your input and suggestions!

Just something to think about: Only 2 things have ever made Windows 7 crash on me since its release.

    1) Google Maps in Firefox
    2) DropBox (the sync program that runs on the PC)

Both of these still reliably crash my system, so I simply avoid them.

A better option than driver finders to update drivers is to install Driver View, on View tab select Hide MS Drivers, then check for each driver left (except dump. prefixed) on the OEM PC or device maker's Support Downloads webpage for newer drivers.
