    Constant registry corruption !!

    Hi All.
This is my first post on here so i hope this is the correct place for my question.
I am trying to sort out a friends laptop, the problem is that the registry keeps corrupting.
I install windows ( win 7 ultimate x64 ) turn off the computer,, turn it back on and it wont boot ,then the startup repair box starts and takes about 20 mins looking at the computer then stops with the message that startup repair cannot repair automatically,, looking down the list of diagnosis repair details all have completed successfully with a error code 0x0, except for system files integrity check and repair ,,that fails with error code 0x490 so i try the win 7 repair disk and it tells me it cannot find any problems with the computer,, i have run the memory check from the repair disk and that all seems ok but the computer still will not boot to windows,, i have run out of ideas,,if anyone can think of anything that might help i would be very grateful.
    thank you.

How old is the laptop and specifically the HDD?
    The HDD might be failing.

When I was testing the W7 betas in 2009, I installed the first one (I tried) on an old HDD.
It would work perfectly, until I turned it off.
Next time I turned it on, I would have to reinstall W7!

I believe it was some sort of HDD fault.
After I started using a different HDD, it never happened again.

Where did you get your copy of Windows 7 Ultimate?

I'm not a expert but I did find a couple.

Read through this tutorial by Bare Foot Kid and see if it helps.

Let us know how well things come out.
I never assume their is one problem.
This can be a problem. It all depends what you got as a gift.

Typically when things are given by a friend it is a torrent iso. Not many people buy windows and gift it.

    Hi.
The copy of win 7 ultimate is rock solid as i have been using it on my main computer for almost a year.
The fault is with my friends laptop, he tripped and dropped it while it was on, this has caused damage to quite a few sectors. but they have now been repaired and now chkdsk is verifying free space ,and that will take some time .
But will let you know the out come when it is finished .
    Regards
