Windows 7: Does Windows 7 Access Other Drives While Loading Files on Local Drive?

Does Windows 7 Access Other Drives While Loading Files on Local Drive?

I am on 3 SSD's running RAID 0, and when I sometimes access files on my local drive(s) (RAID 0), my computer will hang up for a few seconds, and I'll hear one of my other hard drives click (I have a 1TB and 2TB HDD), then what ever I was doing will load. I sometimes see the light flashing on my CD Drive and hear it spin up as well, it does this randomly. Is it because my motherboard is on a RAID setting? Or is Windows looking for cached files on my other drives? Has anybody else had this issue before? I've had this question for a while but I've never seemed to find the answer.

I'd test the HD from Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 .

RAID can be a problem with Win7 and surely isn't any faster than the SSD's you already have. Nor is it redundant which is the first letter in its very name, since we see users who lose all their data here when one drive fails. The only reason I see to use it after five years of seeing only problems is for those who much work with gargantuan files, and I'd simply buy bigger drives.

Windows 7 Ultimate Retail Box (64-bit installed) + Service Pack 1

Normal IDE/SATA HDs are parking the heads to avoid having the drive wear out fast, mine do it all the time, small price of using these cheap big storage drives, it's normal.

Same goes for CD/DVD/Blu Ray drives, only spin when NEW info is needed by accessing the directory/files within again.

Caching the media to RAM and the drives after a certain time of non-use shutdown/park, be glad.
