your welcome, a restore point wont effect any of your personal files it will bring it back to the day you choose from a list of restore points. say a week ago. you will have back original touchpad driver before you updated it.

Okay, system restore worked.Thank God ! And,so far...no adverse affects Now,if anybody can tell me how to get the latest synaptics driver installed without these ill effects,I would much appreciate.According to what I'm seeing I'm running version 7.5 and the latest is like 15 ! I first tried HP's "support Assistant" for updates. But,it seems to get stuck on "Downloading messages and updates definition".That's why I went directly to Synaptics website. And,that's when all this trouble started !

hi you will want to get it from the laptop manufacture. may i ask why you need an updated driver?

Edit: go here and install this no need to uninstall other one just install over it. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...t=5111894#N907

System restore ! Thank God,I was able to restore it to just 2-3 hours back ! I was afraid I was gonna have to restore it to such an earlier time that I would have lost a few things !

The reason I wanted the updated driver (ver.17 according to Synaptics website),is for some reason (I thought I m mentioned this earlier) if I have to restart the pc,my ability to "two finger" scroll is lost. And,the only way to get that ability back is to go into the start menu, find the program and open it physically. It's not loading at startup anymore !

That's the same driver that's already installed.HP (AND Windows) doesn't realize that there is indeed a new driver available.I think maybe it's because it's an outdated pc model ?? Compaq Presario. This problem is just really annoying. And,now,I'm actually SCARED to attempt to install the new driver.Well, just scraed to uninstall the old one (He,he).PLUS.....(I already have the new driver downloaded) I have to unzip the new one !
