    Shortcut Question

    First time poster.

Is there a keyboard shortcut that will hide/show icons on the desktop, if not, how would I go about creating it.

    Thank you,

Hello Giskard, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm not sure about a keyboard shortcut, but you can through the context menu on the desktop.

    Hope this helps some,
    Shawn

    EDIT:
I found this that should do the trick. :)

Thank you. I wonder how one goes about creating a programing to access the context menus. In this case I am fortunate that someone created it for this purpose, but in the future I need to figure out how to shortcutify (sp) any context menu.

You can also create a shortcut to an item and then assign a key to it.

That's a good idea, except I haven't been able to find the "Show Desktop Icons" item.

So far I figured out that when i change the "show desktop icons" option then the following registry entry gets modified.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\HideIcons

Unfortunately, when modify this value from 0 to 1, nothing occurs. I will keep thinking about this.

The first reply pointed to a program that did this, but honestly, I am bit paranoid, why the application for this simple task would be 176kb. I thinking a simple batch file change the right registry files and then forcing a refresh would do it.

Right-click the desktop, then look in the view option and it should be there - show or hide icons.

    Frostmourne,

I know how to get the hide show to happen, but need it in the from of a shortcut. That way I can keep my desktop clean all the time and when i need to access i can just click crt+alt+p (or whatever i decide to do) and then baaam clean desktop in all its 1920X1200 glory.

    Thanks for your help thought.

    Brink,

Thanks. I tried the program but the exe did nothing. It is weird since this should be so easy.
