    Aero Peek not ALWAYS working

    Hello everyone!

I just installed Win7 a week ago and today a very weird thing happens - Aero Peek doesn't work all the time. I have no idea what the issue might be.

Before I forget - one thing I noticed is that when it does NOT work the taskbar icons seem like stuck in selected mode. What I mean is when you go over them they change their color - eg. like they are selected. But when you go away they become transparent once again - well when Aero Peek stops working mine don't go to transparent.

I've attached an image so you can see:

The bar on the left is how all bars should look like when they are not hoped over, yet as you can see the right bar has its "selected" color stuck.

After I make a few "show desktop" switches, and then switch between windows - it somehow gets fixed. Totally random.

I've tried closing programs, did the troubleshooter (said it's all OK), went into settings... basically everything I managed to find and thought of - I tried and nothing helped.

All other functions of Aero work.

If it makes you feel any better, same happens to me. I haven't cared enough to troubleshoot though so sorry, no technical answers I can give.

Matter of fact, it's not working for me right now lol. I think it might depend on what software is actively running.

Edit: Actually, just figured this out. Yes it does. I had Windbg open, no work. Closed it, works now. So see what programs you can close to test.

I don't know - I've tried all kinds of combinations - nothing worked. Today it all seems to be working just fine, with all the same software programs launched. Weird.

EDIT: I actually have an idea of what might have been the issue and will test it later on. I installed forteManager - a manager for my LG monitor. However the program is not compatible with Win7, so I had to use the compatibility mode and run it under Vista Pack 2 (I believe) so maybe this screwed up Aero Peek's settings. As I said - will try it later on and will report. Just wanted to post this before I forget.

I have the same problem, at times the peek stops working for no reason that I can think of - I have to log out and log in again to get it working again or reboot

when it happens the task bar icon that I have last moused over (I dont have to click onto it, just move the mouse over it even for a second and this happens - if it is there to long then I get a normal pop up description that takes some time to go away) stays highlighted as well as the window that is currently in front

    Hello,

same issue here. No solution found (I tried a few like the othe one said by iranian). It's a little bit annoying.

I can have Aero working at 09:00 and 09:01 it stopped working. No new program running. I suspect some programs causing this behavior. I can't just close all of them, I work with this computer so I need them!

    try this,
type services in the start search and click the result with the cog.
when the services window opens scroll down to desktop window manager session manager.
and see if it says started,
if it is click stop the service on the left hand side , then click restart the service
if it isnt started then click start the service,

    Hey. Just found something.

When I reduce MS Outlook, Aero peek works after that. But if I move the mouse too fast, not letting the window peeked to come in front, the problem is present. If I let the window comes in front, I get back Aero Peek.

    Edit:
Issue back again 30 seconds later. Tried the steps above, no good. What a mess!
