    Bookmarks/Favorites Search Advice or App?

My Firefox/IE bookmarks/favorites have grown criminally large. What do the experts here say is the easiest way to locate a specific word or set of alpha-numeric characters in them? Sometimes it may be all I can recall of a certain 'bookmarked' web location.

    -thx

Well if you want to take gizmo's recommendation, it's AM-Deadlink: Best Free Bookmark Cleaner

But in one of the comments it says the new v4.6 doesn't play well with Firefox anymore, so I went for 4.5 to try, no luck so far.

I'm going to try v4.6 there is a workaround to the firefox problem here: http://dottech.org/102014/windows-review-am-deadlink/
The workaround is exporting Firefox bookmarks to HTML, using AM-DeadLink on that HTML file, saving changes made to the HTML file, and then importing the HTML file back into Firefox. This is a bit cumbersome but it works if you use Firefox.

Do take note, however, if you use this workaround then you need to make sure to delete all Firefox bookmarks from within Firefox after you export; if you don’t delete all of them from within Firefox after export, you will have duplicates when you import the HTML file later because Firefox simply imports bookmarks — it does not replace existing ones.

If you go this route, be sure to create a backup of Firefox bookmarks in case something goes wrong.

For IE bookmarks you can simply click the Windows Orb and type a part of the shortcuts name.

If you get lots of hits you can search for only shortcuts:
    type:url recovery

This will list url shortcuts that includes the word recovery

It has a Find / Find Next feature like regeditor does. You can use that after you build the database of bookmarks for each browser you have installed.

It found partial words that I tried, not sure about alpha-numeric as I don't have any.
