Microsoft has got to be loving it.
    Microsoft's biggest competitor is Microsoft.
Microsoft must make the next operating system better than the last. Or we will just stay with W-7.
I think that is exactly what Microsoft is trying to do with W-10.

Many big businesses and industries have just moved to W-7 and will stay their for a long time because of the shear cost of changing operating systems in such a volume.
One a good note; their are hundreds of millions of us that will update to W-10 if it is a great operating system. I will only need two or three copies of W-10 but when you put all the world users together you will come up with some big numbers.

7 is the best desktop os, no question.

10 is just 8.2 and suffers from the the same restrictions. The few changes they have made to the UI may be enough so the average buyer is not repelled by it.

I love how people say Win 8 is/was a flop yet it has a larger market share than OS X
Which market? That is like saying Lamborghini has a tiny share of the personal transport market, of course it does.

OSX only comes on machines that cost £1000+ in the UK. 8x was virtually given away to all and sundry, an not many very interested even then. That is why.

    At this time

    I voted "Yes".
Caveat: I didn't include W10 in my consideration.

I found W8 very annoying (specifically the Start Screen).
W8.1 was slightly less annoying (once it was configured to use All Apps).

W10 TP b9841 was pretty much perfect in my test VM.

The last two upgrades have been backward steps.
If my coding (bad as it is) got worse with each new version, I'd pack it in.

If MS fix the things that they've broken in the last two W10 TP upgrades, (IMO) it has a decent chance of surpassing W7.

There may or may not be valid reasons for not wanting to use Windows 8, but the tiled interface isn't one of them.
    In your opinion.
In my opinion it is perfectly valid for people to refuse to use something they find annoying (or worse).

How many people would use continue to use desktops/smart phones/tablets if some "space plague" destroyed all GUIs and only left the CLIs?

SIW2 hit the nail on the head.
They target 2 different markets (e.g. luxury cars vs everyday runabouts).

IMO, the W8 series is better than OS X, but I wouldn't use either of them. :)

Windows XP's user share plunge not real, just a data adjustment

I guess we'll never find out what the real story is.

If you back up a month to the Sept chart it comports more with what has been reported all along which is that 8 never breaks 13%:

Then take the 3 items off. Those are controversial.
You are correct, I removed them. To be clearer I am referring to W7 on DVD, ISO, Upgrades or OEM computers.

After I edited out those three modifications they were put back into the original post by a moderator.

Think of the post as referring to just Windows 7 in, as-is condition.

There's probably 13% participation in win-10TP if not more
    Win-8-8.1 was a freebie,
I would not of paid for that version of windows nor upgraded win-7 for it either,
10 is still up in the air but what I've seen I still would not install on top of win-7.

All of us here embrace Windows 7 as the best OS produced by M$ to-date.
No way. I prefer(red) XP for its reliability and speed. The only reason I bought 7 was so that I could get updates for software and Microsoft security. Even then, I've kept my GUI and Explorer windows as close to 95/98 as possible with help from Classic Shell, Network Indicator, Classic Start Menu. Windows 8, 8.1, 10, aren't even on my radar.

I would agree with an update of 7 - but not with your list of changes. Especiall the libraries which I think are a very useful feature. And I also want Aero as default.

And I don't understand John's long tooth. For the desktop, 7 is still the ultimate in my book. And who needs touch on a PC. I have 1 laptop with touch. I have yet to use it for the firat time.

I also like Libraries & the Aero feature.

Touch screens always have dirty finger marks on them & need frequent cleaning.
