Windows 7: Display goes dark after 5 min idle; set to turn off after 30 min idle

Display goes dark after 5 min idle; set to turn off after 30 min idle

My display turns off (goes to black screen) after 5 minutes idle, even though I have display set to turn off after 30 minutes idle and the computer to sleep after 1 hour idle (this was done under Power Options in the Control Panel). This just started after the last big Microsoft updates were installed 2-3 weeks ago. I can not seem to change this, no matter what my settings are. Both my husband and I installed all the updates, yet his computer is not doing this; he changed all my settings to match his, but my display still turns off after 5 minutes. What's up with this, and how do I get my display to stay on for more than 5 minutes' idle time?

This is not a laptop is it ?

Give us the exact make and model of pc.

Check the monitor itself for any sleep settings.

And you set windows to never let the monitor go off, correct ?

Computer is NOT a laptop -- it is an HP Pavilion Elite HPE with an HP 2711x monitor. I've looked everywhere I can think of on the monitor itself for any kind of "sleep" or "turn off after X mins" settings; found none. And yes, my husband set the power settings so that display would never go off -- it still went dark after 5 mins idle.

Just a hunch, but check the screensaver, make sure it didn`t accidentally get set to none.

My Samsung monitor has its own "Power Saver" mode.

Thank you so much AddRAM! I finally found the screen saver setting I needed (under personalization, along with the themes I use as desktop wallpaper) -- had to click on the Screen Saver to find the 5 min setting; still think this is kind of a perverse place to hide that particular setting, as it's small and unobtrusive, and especially since unless you click on it, you don't see the time setting. Changed time setting, changed screen saver, and poof! Problem solved! Thank you again!
