Hmm...I do not have any issues with scheduled scans in panda free.

My scheduled scans will always run if they are missed too.
The scheduled task created by Panda didn't have the option checked for
Run task as soon as possible after a scheduled start is missed

I checked this option, and now missed scans do run.

    I have Panda on 8.1 and haven't noticed a problem scanning / pausing ...
What type of scan do you run ?

On a daily basis, I run a Critical Area Scan (Quick Scan), and once a month, I do a Full Scan. It happens on both scans. The computer is in the shop now. When we get it back, I will see if it's fixed and let you know.

Do you have a problem getting regularly infected? Because there's no reason to run all those scans if you practice safe browsing and watch what you install like a hawk. And if you do get regularly infected then what has worked for my installs in these cases to never get infected again is to install the Real Time protection from Malwarebytes. You can trial it now for 30 days. It's only $29 for life. You can pair it with MSE and see no performance hit at all. I would imagine a good install of Panda would be the same, Panda being a bit more aggressive.

Something is already awry on your System if you're getting those types of errors. Compare the install you have to the perfect install compiled in Clean Reinstall Windows 7 which has been done by over a million consumers without a single complaint or reported return for repairs. The same principles apply to Windows 8, though it isn't half the OS Win7 is.

No, I don't get regularly infected. I just like to be assured of things. I like making sure everything is okay. The 8.1 desktop is in the shop because we couldn't get it to sleep or shut down right. Acer said it was a hardware problem. I have no problems with my Windows 7 laptops.

There seems to be a lot of programs that "call home" and update themselves.
They could be a vector for infection (e.g. a compromised update).

I let Avast do a "Quick Scan" everyday (before I get up) except Sundays.
On Sundays, I have it set to do a "Full Scan".

If I see any warnings, I run Malwarebytes.
I also do occasional random scans with Malwarebytes (if I'm not actually doing anything on my PC).

This is why I've always advocated running a Clean Boot to ditch the freeloaders and spyware. You really only need your AV, any sync, gadgets or stickies you use starting with Windows - with maybe one or two other programs you can't do without starting with Windows like a messenger.

Some only use Clean Boot to troubleshoot then turn them back on one-by-one but I wonder why they need them in the first place. If you ask most of them they say they think they wouldn't be running at startup if they weren't needed, that they don't know enough about them to know if they can turn them off. Well, we do know enough after a million users have done a Clean Reinstall Windows 7 without a single complaint since it is one of the steps given to get and keep a perfect install.

I also use Malwarebytes myself. It's a good program. But, I use it once a month after I have ran a full scan with Panda.

What's wrong with built-in Defender, renamed from Microsoft Security Essentials in Windows 8?
I like seeing an antivirus logo in my notification center. Windows Defender doesn't have that.
This is my top complaint about windows defender as well. You would have no idea if it was turned off, I know action center is supposed to tell you when it gets turned off or disabled, but it does not seem to always work. Infections can also easily disable windows defender.
I've been trialing this 3rd party notification icon and rightclick context menu scan for Defender which seems to work OK in Windows 10 as an interface. Need to see if the green checkmark turns yellow or red over time. The only way to get Windows Defender in your System Tray
