Thank you so much - and yes it does say sp1 on the screen and the cd - I will try again but it looks like there is no easy way - just out of interest if I was to buy windows ultimate and upgrade to that would it possibly solve my problems? - just looking desperately for an easy option..

Gregpro thanks so much - I went through the install instructions again and realised I might not have been logged on properly as admin so this time it worked.. sort of.. first it didn't ask me to put my id key in at all and now my pc says "build 7601 this copy of windows is not genuine.. " mmm it then asks me to download something which will tell if its genuine or not - so i do but it won't run!!! The other problem is it also says when I reboot everytime "setup has detected that the .NET Framework version 4.5 needs to be repaired. Do not restart your computer until Setup is complete." but it doesn't complete the update and then says I may be a victim of counterfiting and go online to resolve it... but the program to resolve it won't run....

Now if my Dell windows 7 package is counterfit I can deal with that by buying another but if its the computer that's still just got a download problem and is causing this problem - I will buy another copy or get one from Dell... or a new license and may still get the problem.. How can I check the license key or whatever? or put it onto my computer.... without re-installing... help!! and thank you !

It's likely false positive error and isn't even activated yet. Use the key on the COA sticker which you've now published on the web.

Otherwise Are you connected to Internet to run the Genuine check? Reinstall Net Framework 4 in Control Panel if it will not repair once online.

Panic is not an option when you are here. These are common errors so buckle down.

Thank you for deleting the key! I was in the middle of a reboot. so first how do I activate it? I have no idea.. and can I just uninstall net framework 4.5 and then ask windows to update via the cpanel?

    Activate at Control Panel>System.

I've never not had Net Framework repair itself so maybe you should try it again calmly. If not try installing its standalone installer. If it won't run uninstall it first and reboot.

Where exactly did you get the Win7 key? Have you ever published it on the web inadvertantly before?

No I haven't published it before but I just tried to activate it and its been blocked by microsoft. I bought the cd from the company that made the pc up for me in the UK. The pc came unloaded as I picked everything for it... I think I will have to go back to them... bottoms!

Let them know you are being helped at the top tech forums which is airing this on the web. If they do not replace bogus key then contact MS Customer Svc which has a program thAt can replace the key if you cooperate with a piracy investigation.

If as you say there is a COA sticker then it will get top priority as possible counterfeit.
