Why is copy of a file left on the desktop?

    Windows 7 32 bit

    Hi

Not sure if this is the correct forum, but I'll ask anyway.

I quite often create word docs or excel spreadsheets and save them to my Desktop. Then I'll go and using drag & drop (and 2 windows visible) move the doc to a folder that doesn't reside on the desktop. BUT a copy of that doc or spreadsheet is always left on the desktop and I have to actually go and delete it.

Is there any way I can make that doc or spreadsheet actually move from the desktop to the folder and NOT leave a copy on the desktop? When I move from folder to folder (not working on the desktop) I don't have this trouble.

    Thanks for any advice

The default drag n drop option varies.
Read this article, it may have a solution for you:
Customize the default behavior of Drag and Drop feature in Windows 7, Vista, XP and 8

I've never used the program they mention, so I can't comment on it.
I always use right click when dragging so I can choose the action I want when I release the right button.

Read the article and the 'shift' and drag & drop worked perfectly. And I didn't know about the right-click when dragging.
All I can say is Thank You, Thank You, Thank You so much easier to do this.
