    Windows Confusion

Windows 7 does some pretty annoying things. Many of them I just live with them because I dont have the time to track them all down. But this is just p!ssin me off.

This first screen is the Notification Area Icons window, at the top. Among others, NetLimiter 3 and Avast AV are listed with their associated icons

Scrolled to the bottom, Firefox is displaying Avast's icon. (the Gmail notifier is a browser plugin, thats why it is under Firefox). VLC Media Player is displaying NetLimiter 3's icon.

And as a bonus annoyance, Avast AV is listed again. WTF, over?

Thanks, I realized Ive done that before but since I have the memory span of a mosquito, I dont remember it. I just went to C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\ and deleted IconCache.db. Then I stopped explorer in task manager and restarted it in run soI didnt need to download a file to fix it.

FYI, I noticed the 'System Specs' widget at the bottom of posts. I have 3.25GB RAM in this system, not the reported 2.5.

thx again. I'll be back in 6 or 7 months asking the same question

You should see an "update my system Specs" link if you click on this it will take you to the correct part of your user profile and allow you to correct / add to your specs. The more you can fill in the better for those helping :)

Seems Avast has taken over Firefox,
How many browser add-ons do you use of Avast in Firefox/ Toolbars.......

I don't see Avast recommended here any longer since it bloated up and became buggy. Once it was co-recommended along with MSE but now I only see MSE and lately the slightly more aggressive Panda Cloud free recommended by those who know Win7 best.

So I think what you're seeing is more Avast buggyness. I'd uninstall it and try one of the others that seem to work better.

Also, compare the install you have to Clean Reinstall Windows 7 which compiles everything that works best in tens of thousands of installs we've helped with here. You may want to get and keep a perfect install like over a million other users who have used the tutorial without a single complaint, or any reports back of problems later encountered by those who stuck with the recommended tools and methods.
